How to play "Zion"

"Zion" by Mmuso Worship featuring Oncemore Six is one of the most-shared modern SA worship recordings. It is the song that opens the room and softens it for the Word. Play it right and the whole atmosphere changes.

1. The key: B major

B major, five sharps. Scale: B, C♯m, D♯m, E, F♯, G♯m, A♯dim.

2. The chord shape

Verse: 1 to 3m to 4 to 5, walking up the scale. Chorus: 6m to 4 to 5 to 1 with a ♯4dim between the 4 and the 5 for the climb into the chorus. That ♯4dim is the song's signature move. The Mmuso Worship recording is the reference.

3. The Sunday-ready play

• Right hand: sustained triads with a pad-like feel. B as B, D♯, F♯.
• Left hand: whole notes. Do not fill.
• One move to add: the ♯4dim (E♯dim) between the 4 and 5. Two beats. Not optional. That passing tone smooths the climb into the chorus.
