Connecting your MIDI keyboard
Every tool that can listen to your playing uses Web MIDI — your keyboard talks directly to the browser. Setup is one cable and one click.
Setup
- Plug your keyboard into your computer over USB (or pair it over Bluetooth MIDI if it supports it).
- Open any MIDI-aware tool and click Connect MIDI.
- Your browser asks for permission once — allow it. Play a key; you should see it register instantly.
Browser support
- Best: Chrome or Edge on desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux) and Chrome on Android.
- Not supported: Safari on iPhone/iPad — Apple doesn’t ship Web MIDI there. On iOS, use the on-screen keys where a tool offers them.
When nothing lights up
- Plug the keyboard in before opening the page, or click Connect MIDI again — devices attach automatically once permission is granted.
- Close your DAW (Logic, MainStage, Ableton, FL). Some keyboards only talk to one app at a time.
- Check the browser’s site permissions (the icon left of the address bar) and make sure MIDI isn’t blocked.
- Try a different USB cable/port — charging-only cables are a classic culprit.
