Chord & Voicing Lab

The Chord & Voicing Lab is where chords go from “I know that one” to “my hands know that one.” Pick a chord, see the exact keys, hear it, and drill its shapes — including every inversion.

The workflow

  1. Choose a root and chord quality.
  2. Study the keys on the on-screen piano — then play it back on your own keyboard.
  3. Cycle the inversions and voicing variations until each shape is automatic.

Why inversions matter

Smooth players don’t jump between root positions — they move to the nearest shape of the next chord. Drilling inversions here is what makes your changes glide on a gig.

Pro tips

  • Drill one quality across all twelve keys in a session (all the m9s, say) — that’s how vocabulary becomes instinct.
  • Pair it with the Piano Chords reference when you want the theory behind a shape, and with the Ear Trainer to recognise the qualities by sound.
